My parents, Alfred & Hilda, moved to the Katy area to be near me because I knew that my mom would eventually need more help. My Church offers the Gathering Place program which offers support and respite for my dad and quality care and fun activities for my mom, who has Alzheimer’s. I began to volunteer for CarePartners Alzheimer’s Care Team® which provides the volunteer support for the Gathering Place held at my Church. I have seen first-hand how this program has become a priority in my dad’s life because it is time not only needed but enjoyed by both of them. There can be no greater purpose and blessing in life than the opportunity to connect with one another.

In this new phase of our life, the Gathering Place is a blessing. As a caregiver, the support group, Common Ground, has given me insight of what to expect in the future and has blessed me with a group of people that feel like family. For my wife Hilda, it’s a place that she is given undivided attention and love that keeps her feeling calm and safe. Everything at the Gathering Place is tailored to her needs from entertainment to arts & crafts. CarePartners programs are like family when we are all together.
Alfred and Hilda Flores
We attend several Gathering Place programs a month because they provide an opportunity to socialize for my wife and I. Since we moved to Texas from out of state six years ago, we have no relatives or long-term friends in the area. The volunteers at the Gathering Place have replaced them. The Gathering Place programs provides a break for me while I know my wife is not only safe but having fun with loving friends. Weeks without a Gathering Place to attend seem long and empty.
Roger and Janice Robson
CarePartners has had a tremendous impact on my mom and me since we started going to the Gathering Place. My mom loves all the excitement and atmosphere as she dances, sings and interacts with others just like her. I also attend the Common Ground support group which has provided me with knowledge that helps me provide better care. I now know that we caregivers all share the same love and heartache that comes with caring for someone with dementia. I tell myself daily, that although we struggle hourly, and my mom’s mind is fragile, her heart has not changed.
